The John McMordie Spirit Award is given annually to a graduating Product Realization Lab Course Assistant who carries on the memory of John McMordie, a CA in 2015-2016. John embodied PRL culture, celebrating every student. Sadly, John passed away before his second year as a CA in 2016 following an accident during a race he was running in his home state of Pennsylvania.
This year’s John McMordie Spirit Award goes to a CA who has shown remarkable growth and dedication during their two years in the PRL. Venus Porras brings an infectious energy, genuine warmth, and deep care to every interaction—whether with fellow CAs or the students she mentors. A vibrant and generous presence in the PRL, Venus takes on any task with enthusiasm and heart. Her passion for the foundry is matched only by her eagerness to share her knowledge, always ready to uplift others. Like John, Venus’s creative spirit will leave a lasting imprint on the PRL, and we are so grateful for everything that she has shared. Congratulations, Venus—and thank you for your generosity, curiosity, and care. We are honored to present the 2024–2025 John McMordie Spirit Award to you!
