Sewing

Main content start

Sewing is a process of joining materials, typically fabrics. Sewing can be done by hand with a needle, or with the aid of a sewing machine. Sewing machines are mechanical devices that interlock an upper and lower thread to form stitches through the material.

There are two types of sewing machines available for use in Room 36. Standard machines that are sufficient for most projects, and a heavy-duty industrial machine for working with heavy materials such as thick canvas. Students that would like to use the industrial machine should first become familiar and comfortable with the use of the standard machines.
