Design Goals
The TulipS came from my desire to create products that have a hidden design interest. I want the viewer to at first view the TulipS as a whole and see a beautiful and interesting form. The hidden design feature is exposed when the TulipS is viewed directly from the front and directly from the side. The front profile matches the front profile of Tulip Chair designed by Eero Saarinen. The side profile matches the side profile of the S Chair designed by Verner Panton. Combining these two famous designs has allowed me to create something completely original and only vaguely resembles the designs from which it was born.
