Camille Henrot (M.S.’19, Mechanical Engineering, Stanford University) was named the third recipient of the John McMordie Spirit Award at the PRL Commencement Dinner on June 11. PRL Directors David Beach, Craig Milroy, and Marlo Kohn established the award to honor the memory of Product Realization Lab Course Assistant John McMordie (BS ’16, MS ’17 awarded posthumously), who died of injuries suffered while running a marathon. The John McMordie Spirit Award was bestowed on Henrot because she embodies John’s spirit of generosity, joy, and intellectual rigor. She earned her BSME from MIT and came to Stanford to study Mechanical Engineering at the Master’s level. This year she was co-specialist in our sand casting foundry and advanced us technically as well as being deeply committed to her students. Under her leadership we made a transition from oil bound sand to “green sand” which is water based. This transition was fraught with many unexpected problems. Camille exhibited tenacity, bravery, and engineering skill bringing us through multiple equipment failures with out ever letting our students down. The McMordie Award includes a monetary award and acknowledgment on a permanent plaque in the PRL.
